Looking For A Sign
Matthew 16:1-4 says the following:
1The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.
2He replied, "When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,' 3and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah." Jesus then left them and went away.”
If there’s one thing to learn from this passage it’s don’t test God! The Pharisees and Saducees weren’t going to believe Jesus was the Messiah even if he had performed the miracles they were asking of him. They wanted to see a sign from heaven proving Jesus was who he said he was. They attributed all of the miracles Jesus had done as some sort of magic, thus they were out to try to prove he wasn’t the real deal. John 20:29 says, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” If you truly want to see and witness the miracles of God, simply have faith. Pray expectantly, and never doubt the power of God. He can do all for all if you simply have faith!
Application:
1. Read Matthew 16:1-4
2. How strong is your faith? Can you believe in what you cannot see?
