Prepare For Worship

Prepare For Worship

When we think of preparation, we probably find a hard time associating this with worship. We all have our views and experience on worship, so let’s focus on the importance of preparation. What are some things you prepare for on a regular basis? For me, I spend a lot of time preparing baseball players for games. We practice, learn new plays and signs, and of course evaluate the opponent before each game. Before every game, we prepare by deciding who we are going to pitch, and who’s going to play each position to give our team the best opportunity to succeed. Why is it I spend so much time preparing for a baseball game, but so little time preparing for worship?

Here’s some food for thought as you engage in your next worship experience:

1.Arrive at worship early. This enables you to find the perfect seat. I love sitting at the front. This enables me to stay focused and alert. Moreover, I love sitting in an aisle seat. I feel less distracted this way. There’s nothing worse than running late to church!2.Make sure you have a great attitude. Pray before you leave the house that God will speak into you during the service. Walk into church with an open mind and heart.

3.Have a clear head. If there’s something on your mind, turn it over to God before the service starts so you can stay focused on the sermon and worship experience. Don’t bring baggage into the service, or your mind will stray and you will miss the message.

4.Bring your Bible and a notepad. I love to take notes, as it helps me remembe what I was told, and I can look back on them when needed.

5.Remember who the audience is…GOD! We often feel as if the congregation is the audience. We should only worship Jesus Christ, not the preacher or the band.

Let’s begin treating worship with the importance it deserves. Many of us spend more time preparing for a night out on the town than we do for worship. The more you prepare for worship, the better the experience will be, and the faster transformation will occur in your life. Let’s never forget, we shouldn’t go to church to worship, we should go to church worshipping!
