Spiritual Deposits
I think it’s safe to say we all have a bank account of some sort, and if we don’t deposit money into the account, we will eventually have a balance of zero. In order to maintain a good account, we must deposit money in the account on a regular basis in order to keep providing for ourselves and our families needs. The same principle applies to a vehicle. If you drive your car long enough, you are going to have to refuel, and if you don’t you will run on empty. At this point it’s too late! We must refuel or we will be stuck in neutral. In fact, we will actually digress due to the fact we’ve lost time and energy trying to remedy the situation.
Our spiritual journey is exactly the same as our bank account or a vehicle. We must make spiritual deposits and we must refuel if we want to keep moving in the right direction. I’ve had many times in my life where my spiritual tank’s been on empty. It’s at these moments I can’t think of a daily devotional to write. In order to feed others, we must continue to feed ourselves.
When we think of the importance of financial deposits and fuel deposits, those pale in comparison to spiritual deposits. Spiritual deposits enable us to be the person God intended us to be. Just as there is evidence of financial deposits (we have money in the account) and fuel deposits (we don’t run out of gas), we too have evidence of spiritual deposits. When we feed ourselves proper food, we treat people with love and grace. We are slow to anger, and quick to forgive. We see the good in people and avoid the sinful life that calls our names. Romans 12:1-2 says, “1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Spiritual deposits lead to the renewing of your mind and a transformation from the inside out. Are you making daily spiritual deposits? Just think if you made financial deposits every day…your bank account would grow like crazy. If you make spiritual deposits every day, your spiritual bank account will grow like crazy, and you will grow to be more than you could have ever imagined. Your life will be overcome with a peace and joy that surpassing understanding. Start today by making spiritual deposits on a daily basis. Have a daily devotional you read, read a Bible verse, plug into a Bible study and church. Not only are spiritual deposits the best deposits you can make, but they are also the one deposit you have control of!
