Psalm 1
1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
4 Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Psalm 1 gives us a distinct contrast between those that walk with the Lord and those that do not. There are two types of people: faithful and the faithless. The more we delight in God’s presence the more fruitful we are. The more we do wrong, the further we remove ourselves from truth. Who and what we surround ourselves with leads to success or failure. We should avoid the wicked, sinners, and mockers, or you too can become one. We are called to love all people, and those described in the previous sentence deserve our love, prayers, and witness. However, we are called to reach down in the ditch and pull them out, not jump down in the ditch with them! You will become who you hang around.
Who do you walk with? Do you allow the word of God to speak into you on a regular basis?
