As a refresher, Matthew was a part of the unpopular crowd. He was an evil tax collector, and Jesus changed everything. Everyone questioned Jesus and his followers as to why he would hang out with tax collectors and sinners like Matthew and here’s what Jesus had to say:
"It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
We need to be careful to not think too highly of ourselves. Jesus wants us to make an impact in people’s lives that don’t know him; therefore we must reach out to those in need. Don’t just sit around in your little bubble of church going friends and act as if the rest of the world is in the wrong. We need to surround ourselves with great accountability as iron sharpens iron, but we must also use what we’ve learned to sharpen others. God can’t use us to save souls if we aren’t reaching out to those that need to be saved.
Application:
1. Read Matthew 9:1-12
2. Make a list of those people in your life that need to know about Christ and show them Christ. Don’t beat people over the head with the Bible, and do not talk down to them. Simply plant the seeds and allow the Holy Spirit to take over!
